Ascension Island is a British owned island located not too far from the equator. Only about 880 people live on the island, a mix of about 800 Britons, 70 Americans, and about 12 people from neither category.

It is basically an air force base for the British and the USA, which is smack dead in the middle of the Atlantic, hundreds of miles from both Africa and Brazil. It is 88km², or roughly 26 sq. miles.

The island was uninhabited before 1815, so the British government has asserted that there is no “right of abode” on the island for anyone. Basically, everyone could be ordered off. It is nothing more than a military base, with some civilian support staff.

So why am I suggesting this?

Well, during WW1, the British duplicitously promised the same piece of land, Palestine, to both the Jews and the Arabs to get their support in the war. Hence the problem we have today.

Since Britain created this mess, it is only fitting that Britain make some recompense to help this problem.

In this case, the British should freely give the islands to the project to be used to house extremists who would use violence to intimidate the populace who wish to voluntarily move to the New World, and thereby thwart the relocation project.

A sort of modern Devil’s Island?!

Yes, but not as brutal. We could convert the barracks to living quarters. The kitchens and medical buildings could be left to provide their necessities.

Extra buildings could be set up to house many prisoners should that prove necessary.

The prisoners would be given some tractors and tools to do some farming for food. It would be an open air prison.

No need for guards. Just a well-fortified guard station near the dock, and a few off-shore patrol boats.

Prisoners would be allowed some TV and and some internet access, subject to their behavior.

If they behaved, they would get shipments of supplies. If they misbehaved a battleship could isolate the whole island until they amended their ways.

The island could easily support 2-3,000 people. Women would only be allowed in if they have a record of clean behavior for more than a year.

If they act up, they never leave the island. If they behave they might get to set up a little island Republic.

Britian loses all claim to the island, but since the British created the problem, this is only meet and fit.
